SHILLONG, Jan 24: A newly floated organisation, Meghalaya People’s Coal Traders Welfare Organization, on Monday stated that the ‘coal syndicate’ which is being operated by politicians, bureaucrats, coal barons etc., has affected the coal business in the state.
Talking to reporters, president of the organisation, John Frankie Rymbai, said that the organisation impresses upon the state government to put in place a clean and transparent system for the interest of the coal exporters in the state, even as he clarified that their intention is not to criticise.
Rymbai, nonetheless, went on to allege that out of the 300 challans, more than 1,000 trucks are being used to transport coal using the same challan. He further claimed that the rate of per challan at present will be around Rs 95,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh.
