MAWKYRWAT, Jan 24: As many as five shops were burnt down to ashes after a fire broke out at Bagli village, near Borsora under Ranikor Civil Sub-Division in South West Khasi Hills.
As per reports, the shops belonging to Binat Sangma, Talis D Marak and Lipin D Marak from Majisora, Shila M Sangma from Khonjoy and Binesh M Sangma from Bagli had caught fire after an unknown source lit up one shop at around 1 AM on January 24, and carried it on to the adjacent four.
Sources have, however, reported that no one was injured in the accident although severe losses have been incurred by the owners in the incident.
Reportedly, of the five shops, three were grocery shops and two were motor parts shops.
General secretary of the All Khasi Hills Achik Federation (AKHAF), John Sangma, has demanded compensation from state and district authorities for the affected families of the incident. “The AKHAF has also demanded that the state government should immediately set up fire service at Borsora point so that people can contact the concerned authority whenever these kinds of incident take place,” Sangma said.
