National Girl Child Day celebrated in good spirits

SHILLONG, Jan 24: On the occasion of National Girl Child Day, different organisations and units on Monday organised various programmes in the city.
Celebrating the occasion, the National Service Scheme cell NEHU, Dean Student Welfare (DSW) NEHU and NSS unit of Shillong College organised a felicitation programme for girl achievers at Marbisu, East Khasi Hills, the ‘adopted village’ of the NSS Unit, Shillong Law College.
The programme saw the felicitation of girl achievers of the state from different fields, namely Lalrinmawii Janai Lating from Arts, Saphira Sun Ibanylla Kurbah, Neha Sun, Anju Lulin, Wanrikynti Kurbah and Nishanri Warkhyllew from sports and Itaris Kurbah from social work.
The programme was attended by chairman, Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong, S Laloo, Sordar Hima Marbisu, Starsing Kurbah, State NSS Officer, F Rumnong, DSW, NEHU, Dr R Nongkhlaw, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell NEHU, D Nongkynrih, Programme Officer, Shillong Law College, D Mawlong among others.
SPARK’s awareness prog
Inviting awareness and attention on the various issues concerning young girls in the country, a social organisation, SPARK, organised their special programme on National Girl Child Day. The founder and president of SPARK, Shima Modak, visited more than 50 families and helped spread community-level awareness by talking about the education, health, nutrition, safety and rights of a girl child in our country.
The said programme was organised at all the centres of SPARK, namely Pongkung village, Mawlong village, Mawlynrei village, Rangmen village and Bara Bazaar slum area.
