SHILLONG, Jan 24: With Assam and Meghalaya inching closer towards some sort of closure in six of the 12 disputed areas along the interstate border, the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has asked the chief ministers of the two states to show the same level of commitment, sincerity and compassion while resolving the dispute in the remaining six areas.
HSPDP president, KP Pangniang on Monday lauded Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma for making serious efforts in resolving the dispute and asked the two CMs to expedite the process of resolving the dispute in the six remaining areas including the contentious Langpih and Block I and Block II.
He hailed the two state governments for moving close to resolving the dispute in six areas and lamented that people had to wait 50 years to see the issue being resolved.
“It is unfortunate that the boundary between the two states was not demarcated after Meghalaya was carved out of Assam in 1972,” he added.
