Man dies in his sleep inside vehicle in Ri Bhoi

Shillong, Feb 1: A 45-year-old man died in his sleep inside a vehicle at Laybye Market near Jiva Veg restaurant in Ri Bhoi on Jan 31 evening.

The deceased has been identified as Shemphang Thangkhiew from Pahambir in Ri Bhoi.

It was learnt that the man was returning from a picnic with his fellow taxi drivers at Mawkhla.

It was around 5-6 pm on Jan 31 when he along with his friends reached Nongpoh that they went separate ways.

It was also learnt that at 7 pm, the man was still calling his family but after that, despite several attempts, the family members couldn’t get through to him.
It was only in the morning that shopkeepers of Laybye Market found a man sleeping inside his car.

Acting on suspicions, the shopkeepers informed the village elders who later found that the man had already died.

The body was later taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital to complete the formalities.

However, following request for post mortem exemption from the family, the body was later handed over to the family members.
