SHILLONG, Feb 3: Power Minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday said the department has submitted a detailed project report worth Rs 2500 crore to the Union Power Ministry for reforms in the distribution system in the state Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
“We have submitted a detailed project report to the REC which will screen the same and send it to the Ministry. We will then know exactly how much will be sanctioned for us,” the Deputy CM said.
“I cannot say whether we will get the full amount until and unless the screening is completed by the REC,” Tynsong added.
The Centre had launched the reform-based and result-linked RDSS with an objective to improve the operational efficiencies and financial sustainability of state-owned DISCOMS and the Power departments by providing financial assistance for modernisation of the distribution infrastructure.
Meghalaya and Assam have become frontrunners in planning their operational and financial reforms as well as the underlying works to accomplish the same under the RDSS.
The RDSS has an outlay of Rs 3,03,758 crore with estimated budgetary support from the central government to the tune of Rs 97,631 crore which would be available to the states till 2025-26.
