MAWKYRWAT, Feb 3: The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), Meghalaya Unit, has hinted at legislators jumping political ship to join the National People’s Party (NPP) ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections.
Speaking to media persons, president of the NPYF, Meghalaya Unit, Kitborlang Nongrem, said that that almost every day, people from different parts of the state, especially from Khasi-Jaintia Hills, are joining the party.
He, however, did not spill the beans about the names of the MLAs joining the NPP ahead of the Assembly elections. “It is true that some MLAs will join the NPP before the upcoming elections, but I don’t want to name them because we still have one year before the elections,” Nongrem added.
Asked about the strength of the NPYF in Meghalaya, he said that the party has seen a significant growth strength-wise. He also contended that people in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills also have accepted the NPP.
“Therefore, with the strengthening of the NPYF in all districts, blocks etc., the party will surely come back to power after the 2023 elections,” he said.
The NPYF president also called upon the youths to join politics and play a proactive role so as to usher in changes in the state.
“It is very important for the educated youths to join any political party and play a proactive role so that they can contribute to the development of the state and serve the people. This is the platform where there is no limit for anyone to serve the people,” he said.
