Guwahati, Feb 7: Amid growing incidence of crimes in the city, a woman was found dead in her apartment at Gopinath Nagar in the Kalapahar area here on Monday.

According to reports, the woman, identified as Anu Hazarika (60), lived alone in her residential apartment at Tara Hira complex for the past five years, after she had lost her husband and son.

Reportedly the residential complex was owned by Hazarika.

Police have meanwhile initiated an investigation even as it is suspected that the woman, who was found dead with her mouth taped and hands tied, might have been murdered on Sunday night.

According to sources, cash and other valuables were taken away from her apartment.

“We have started an investigation. However, at this juncture, we are unable to disclose anything. Let us first examine whatever CCTV footage is available with us,” a police official told mediapersons.

In October last year, an elderly couple, who lived alone, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at their residence at Chandan Nagar in the Survey (Beltola) area of the city.
