SHILLONG, Feb 7: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will lead a delegation of the chief executive members (CEMs) of all the three autonomous district councils (ADCs) to Delhi to discuss the proposed amendment of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council CEM, Titosstarwell Chyne said this after a delegation of the MDCs met Sangma on Monday.
Chyne told reporters that the chief minister had assured them he will lead a delegation of all the three CEMs to Delhi to discuss the proposed amendment with the Ministry of Home Affairs to avoid any kind of confusion. The discussion will be before the proposed amendment is tabled during the autumn session of Parliament.
He said the CM had clarified that the state government incorporated “village council” and “village dorbar” in the recommendations approved by the Cabinet recently on the proposed amendment to be submitted to the Centre. Village council will be applicable in the Garo Hills region and village dorbar in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region, Chyne said.
The council will continue to conduct elections to a village council or a Hima, he added. “We are happy with the clarification given by the Chief Minister on this matter,” he said.
Chyne also said the chief minister assured to soon release the pending schemes allocated from the 15th Finance Commission to the councils.
According to him, the Finance Commission had released Rs 60 crore to the three ADCs for the pending schemes.
