Shillong, Feb 8: In a first in the country, the Congress and BJP will be sharing power in Meghalaya.

This unique political development is the outcome of the decision of the Congress Legislature Party(CLP)  to join the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) earlier today.

Disappointed, the BJP state president, Ernest Mawrie refused to make any comments but said Congress’ move came as a surprise.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said in politics there are no permanent friends or enemies, stating that since the Congress’ interests align with the MDA the latter welcomes their (Congress MLAs’) decision.

Earlier, the five remaining Congress MLAs decided to join the ruling MDA for the “welfare of the people”.
