Training cum workshop for muga farmers held

TURA, Feb 9: In an effort to encourage the existing muga seed famers and support their livelihood with sericulture incentives that are vital in muga raring activities, a one day skill training cum workshop on Agri Entrepreneurs development programme was organised for farmers at Jengjal area in West Garo Hills recently.

The programme took place under the chairmanship of Dr. K. Indirakumar, Scientist – B. and in charge of P4 Unit, MESSO, CSB, Tura,Meghalaya. Others who also attended the programme included, Dr.G.Singaiah, Pro Vice Chancellor, NEHU, Tura, Dr. R. Sasikumar, Nodal Officer, Incubation center, NEHU, Tura, Shri. Nollingston Sangma, Farm supervisor, State sericulture Department and Miss. S. B.Devi, Field Assistant, P4 Unit, MESSO, CSB, Tura and farmers.

Dr.G.Singaiah, Pro Vice Chancellor, NEHU, Tura, who was the chief guest on the occasion, encouraged the muga farmers to develop their existing skills to enable them to sustain their livelihood and also assured that NEHU would provide all possible help.

Also speaking during the programme, Dr. K. Indirakumar, Scientist-B and In charge, reached out to the distraught muga farmers due to the pandemic and vowed to support them with essential materials.
