SHILLONG, Feb 12: Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) president, KP Pangniang on Saturday dismissed Rambrai-Jyrngam MLA, Kimfa Marbaniang’s allegation that the West Khasi Hills regional committee on interstate border had hurried in completing the process of inspection and making recommendations.
Marbaniang, who is a member of the committee, had alleged that as the process of inspection and survey was completed in haste, it might lead to the state losing land in three to four areas.
However, Pangniang said the MLA was involved in the entire process and he raised no objection earlier.
“I have witnessed it all. I am a local leader and also the president of the HSPDP. The statement made by the Rambrai-Jyrngam MLA that it was done in a hasty manner is baseless,” Pangniang said.
Stating that it is a very sensitive issue and such a statement can create a lot of confusions, he urged people, especially the border residents, not to be misled by the MLA’s remark, stating that everything was done in a very effective manner by taking all stakeholders into confidence.
“It was done collectively and with the cooperation of all local leaders and also the Assam counterpart,” Pangniang added.
Pointing out that the MLA himself is a member of the committee, the HSPDP president said, “We had sat together for numerous meetings and gone out for many inspections. I do not know where it is coming from now”.
He said if the MLA felt things were being done hastily, he should have raised the issue with the chairman or the members of the committee.
“Wherever we went and whatever we did, he was happily smiling. He accompanied us and I never heard him complaining about anything or giving a suggestion,” Pangniang said.
