Meghalaya CM announces welfare measures at ex-servicemen rally

Shillong,  Feb 15: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today attended the Meghalaya State Ex-Servicemen Rally held at Assam Regimental Centre, Happy Valley here.

The Chief Minster, during his address, said that the Ex-Servicemen Rally is an important platform that focusses on renewing the bond between serving and retired personnel, for addressing grievances for the welfare of ex-servicemen and for the felicitation of Veer Naris.

He also lauded the contribution of the veterans and the serving soldiers of Meghalaya and the North-East, towards the security and prosperity of the country.

During the occasion the Chief Minister announced several initiatives taken by the Government of Meghalaya for the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families. He further added that the Government is committed to ensure maximum support and benefit is given to the Ex-servicemen and the Veer Naris.

In addition to the various initiatives announced today, the Chief Minister informed that sufficient space will be provided for the ECHS (Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme) Polyclinic in Tura. The Government has also sanctioned 4 Crores for the construction of the Sainik Welfare Guest House, the work for which will start at the earliest, the Chief Minister informed.

During the occasion the Chief Minister also presented the Ex-gratia and Gallantry Award Winners Cheques and Gifts to Selected Ex-Servicemen and Veer Naris.

Air Marshal AP Singh, AVSM, SASO Eastern Air Command, Lt. Gen. K.C Panchanathan, AVSM, GOC 101 Area, Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills District, Isawanda Laloo, were among the dignitaries present at the function today.
