SHILLONG, Feb 15: Opposition leader, Mukul Sangma on Tuesday came down hard on the NPP-led MDA Government saying lack of governance and the quantum of corruption in the state have provided a breeding ground for new militant outfits, but the government was quick to defend itself saying it would not allow militancy to rear its ugly head once again.
While Mukul alleged that illegalities like coal mining and transportation was allowing some group to get easy access to money which they were using to float armed outfits, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong claimed that the police intelligence wing was very strong and the government will ensure that there is no resurgence of militancy.
The government will make sure that no individual or group turn themselves into dacoits, Tynsong said, while asserting that if any such group exists in the state “we are going to arrest them.”
Earlier, the AITC leader claimed that attempts were being made to float armed groups in the state.
“With easy money falling into the hands of the people they are going to buy sophisticated arms and create the same problems which the state has faced in the past,” Mukul said.
He said that the matter was communicated to the state government and a discussion was also held.
Terming the trend as dangerous, Mukul said, “One has to understand the multiple ramifications of lack of governance and quantum of corruption in the state.”
“I urge everyone to tell the government to stop this,” he added.
