SHILLONG, Feb 16: Health Minister, James PK Sangma on Wednesday ruled out any further relaxation of the COVID-induced curbs.

Minister James PK Sangma.

“We are not thinking of that right now. Whatever relaxations have been given are in view of the fact that the number of cases is coming down,” Sangma said.
Providing an update on the COVID-19 situation in the state, the minister said, “The cases are under control and hence we have relaxed the norms. We are hopeful that we will be able to get back to normalcy without witnessing any further spike.”
On AITC state leader Mukul Sangma’s allegation that the government’s decision to ease restrictions conveyed its inability to understand things in-depth, the minister said, “Dr Mukul is a senior leader and entitled to his opinion. But I think it is unfair on his part to say such things. He should not criticise people who are working hard and making sacrifices,” he added.
60 fresh cases, no death
Meanwhile, the state on Wednesday recorded 60 fresh cases of COVID-19 while no death was reported in the past 24 hours. The active cases stand at 550 while 91,016 people have recovered so far, including 119 on the day. The death toll remains at 1,565.
24 fresh cases were reported in East Khasi Hills, 11 in West Garo Hills, seven in West Jaintia Hills, among others.
