SHILLONG, Feb 18: The crippled state Congress has been dealt with another blow with party’s KHADC MDC from Rambrai-Jyrngam, Bajop Pyngrope, quitting the grand old party.
Pyngrope justified his exit from the party stating that staying with the Congress would be ‘political suicide’.
This is another setback for the Congress in the KHADC after party MDC from Laitumkhrah-Malki, Fantin Lakadong, had decided to join the National People’s Party (NPP).
When contacted, Pyngrope confirmed that he is planning to leave the party in the coming days. “I am still discussing with my supporters. I have not yet decided on the party which I am going to associate myself,” the MDC said.
When asked if he is eyeing to contest from Mawthadraishan constituency, Pyngrope said that he is yet to decide on contesting the upcoming 2023 Assembly polls stating that he is not an ambitious person.
“My priority will be to work for strengthening of the party which I am going to associate. I will not deny there is pressure for me to join the political battle in 2023,” he said.
It may be mentioned that MDC from Laitumkhrah-Malki, Fantin Lakadong, had said that his decision to join the NPP after leaving Congress was as per the advice of his supporters.
“The party leaders and workers have made me win and made me MDC. They are the ones who decide on my behalf,” Lakadong had stated.
