Weeklong festival on science
SHILLONG, Feb 18: A week-long festival of science and technology, “Festival of Science Communication Popularisation” or “Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate” and its extension-cum-National Science Day 2022 celebration will be held simultaneously in All Saints’ Hall, IGP, Shillong and Tura Science Centre, West Garo Hills from 10 AM onwards from February 22 to 28. The programme will be jointly organised by the State Council of Science Technology & Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya and Vigyan Prasar, an autonomous body of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.

Hand grenade found in city
SHILLONG, Feb 18: An old and rusted hand grenade was found near a garbage dumping place in at Dong Kamon, Nongmengsong on Friday afternoon. Sources informed that a local resident was the first to witness the grenade and then he immediately informed the police. According to sources, a police team arrived at the spot adding that the police found that the hand grenade to be rusted and pinned. The hand grenade was taken over to the police bomb squad.

State farmers receive training
SHILLONG, Feb 18: Farmers of across parts of Meghalaya were recently imparted the know-how of growing ginger and potato organically as well as were trained on bioinoculant technologies. According to a statement here, a series of training programmes on ‘Skill Development on Identified Bioinoculant Technologies and On Farm Mass Production Technology’ were conducted in six districts of Meghalaya.The training programmes were jointly organised by Meghalaya Basin Management Agency, Bio-Resource Development Centre, Upper Shillong, International Potato Centre, Meghalaya, College of PG Studies in Agricultural Sciences (Central Agricultural University, Imphal), Umiam, ICAR-National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganism, Mau, UP and Department of Biotechnology, GoI. “A total of 125 identified progressive organic ginger-growing farmers of 6 districts of Meghalaya were imparted training both theoretically and practically,” it said. During the training programmes, famers also received “quality seed materials of ginger and potato, liquid biofertilizers (CAU-Bioenhancer) and biopesticides (Um-Tricho and Um-Bir) as critical inputs to grow ginger and potato crop organically.”

FLW ’22: Banks distribute bags
JOWAI, Feb 18: In keeping with the ongoing Financial Literacy Week 2022, the Reserve Bank of India, Shillong and Meghalaya Rural Bank, Jowai on Friday organised the Financial Literacy Camp where bags were distributed among schoolchildren of Mookaswan village in West Jaintia Hills district. The programme which was based on the theme “Go Digital, Go Secure” was attended by several dignitaries including the Waheh Shnong, Bloin Shylla and a host of participants. It may be mentioned that the distributed bags contained literacy messages pertaining to the theme for the wider dissemination of the messages. The same programme was conducted by State Bank of India, Ummulong Branch, at Madur village of the district.
