SHILLONG, Feb 20: Suspended Congress Legislature Party leader, Ampareen Lyngdoh said she was not aware of any move by Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma to induct her into the Cabinet.
A section of the media had reported that Ampareen would replace Transport Minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare in the Cabinet and an official announcement was expected shortly.
It is speculated that the ruling National People’s Party is making this “sacrifice” in order to improve its prospects in the 2023 Assembly elections.
The CLP leader said she had neither bargained for a cabinet berth nor made any other demand while announcing support to the NPP-led MDA Government.
“My sole objective behind supporting the government is the benefit of the people of my constituency,” she said.
“Our people have been denied various development programmes for the past four years. We are all united and will do whatever is needed to protect each other’s interests,” she added.
While the government is yet to “reward” Ampareen for extending support to the MDA, four other suspended Congress MLAs have already been appointed to plum posts.
According to a recent government notification, Mohendro Rapsang and PT Sawkmie have been appointed co-chairmen of the Meghalaya New and Renewable Energy Development Agency with perks and facilities under Category “A+”. Mayralborn Syiem was given the post of Co-Chairman of Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation while Kimfa Marbaniang has been appointed Co-Chairman of Meghalaya Government Construction Company.
