SHILLONG, Feb 20: The HSPDP has decided to field Shakliar Warjri against sitting MLA and minister, HB Nongsiej, from Mawthadraishan constituency in the 2023 Assembly polls.
HSPDP president, KP Pangniang, informed that Warjri will contest as a UDP candidate from Mawthadraishan constituency even though the party is yet to formally announce his candidature.
“As a party, we want to give more tickets to the educated youth to contest the upcoming elections. It will be good for the state if educated youth are ready to join the political battle,” he said.
Meanwhile, former minister Nehlang Lyngdoh’s son, Sunshine Makri, is contemplating to contest from Umsning constituency as an Independent candidate in the upcoming Assembly elections. Makri will be backed by Umsning Constituency People’s Forum.
In his address to the media recently, the Makri exhorted the people to support him in the upcoming elections.
