TURA, Feb 21: Even as their demands continue to fall on deaf ears, the All Meghalaya 4th Teachers Association, Garo Hills unit has once again pushed for a hike in their salaries, with emphasis on increment from their regular amount of Rs 12,000 to Rs 20,493, which would bring them at par with the other teachers of the state.
According to president of the association, Tengsrang K Sangma, the enhancement proposal sent by DSEL had come through in 2017 but as the teachers state, no steps have been taken in this regard, even after all these years.
“With Rs 12,000, we can no longer survive. We also cannot apply for another job because most of the teachers are overage”, Sangma said recently.
It may be mentioned that earlier in 2017, the salary of the Assistant SSA teachers was raised from Rs 9,900 to Rs 20,493 while that of the 4th teachers saw a raise from Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000.
