SHILLONG, Feb 21: The state BJP, an ally in the NPP-led MDA coalition in Meghalaya, has yet again trained its guns on the state government, this time alleging that the government of Meghalaya is providing wrong information to the central government on implementation of the central schemes in state.
Senior BJP leader and an MDC in the GHADC, Bernard Marak, alleged that the Centre’s initiatives to reach out to the needy remain a pipe dream due to the failure of the state mechanism in delivering these schemes to the beneficiaries.
He pointed out to the farmer’s card, calling it one such failure where the actual farmers are deprived of this scheme and the names of those forwarded by the political workers of the ruling party get approved.
“In job card, the accounts of the beneficiaries are not updated to the Centre stating that the job card holders have no accounts and do not use mobiles,” he said.
Alleging that the wages are not paid to the villagers in full and the blocks keep blaming the Centre for non-payment of the wages, he added, “The ‘Zero’ balance account of women did not get any benefit till today. Same with old-age pensioners, widow pensioners etc.”
Claiming that the Centre’s flagship programme, Jal Jeevan Mission, has failed to reach every household in the state, Marak alleged that approved pipes have disappeared and were replaced by the plastic ones in several places.
“The Tura water supply scheme has also failed to supply running water to the city folks and there is much difficulty in getting sufficient water. Chief Minister should deliver the schemes to the genuine beneficiaries instead of making media hype. If debated, CM will find himself in a very awkward position,” he said.
