M’laya Bharat Scouts & Guides remembers Founder of Scouting
SHILLONG, Feb 22: On the occasion of the birthday of the founder of Scouting, Lord Baden Powell and his wife, Lady Olave Baden Powell, the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides on Tuesday celebrated the World Founder’s Day and World Thinking Day. Based on the theme ‘Our World, Our Equal Future: the environment and gender equality’, the programme was held at the state headquarters of Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, Shillong. State Commissioner (Scouts), Kenneth Kharkongor, graced the event as the chief guest whereby dignitaries and members of the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides attended the celebration.During his address, Kharkongor highlighted the importance of plastic usage and management while urging the youth to take up this challenge immediately for a better future and a cleaner environment. The programme also included the renewal and commitment of the Scout Promise as well as the presentation of a musical mashup by members of the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides.
Water supply scheme for Mawiong
SHILLONG, Feb 22: The Meghalaya government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 24 crore for the augmentation of Mawiong Umjapung Water Supply scheme. Informing this, Mawlai MLA, PT Sawkmie said that he had been working on the project since 2018 as he kept running from pillar to post, but the project was never sanctioned. “But now as I have joined the Government, the project was immediately sanctioned,” Sawkmie said while thanking Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma. Stating that the locals of the region are even now, forced to buy water twice a week while being fully dependent on public taps, he said that the scheme would be of great help as efforts will be taken to provide every household with water.
Career guidance programme
Shillong, Feb 22: In a bid to assist students in identifying career options and acquiring professional goals in their respective fields, a career guidance programme was held in Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Rynjah on Tuesday. Organised jointly by the Minot Multi-Function Society, Shillong and the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), the programme was presided over by MLA of Nongthymmai constituency, Charles Pyngrope as the chief guest and counsellor, career expert and columnist, Dr S Maxwell Lyngdoh as the resource person. While Pyngrope exhorted the students to take up jobs and gather meaningful experiences for their upcoming professional career, resource person Lyngdoh gave an in-depth insight on the various aspects of career counseling like career planning, self-understanding, entrepreneurship etc. The programme was attended by a total of 60 students along with Principal, ITI, H Massar, teachers and members of Minot Multi-Function Society and NYKS.
Applications called for talent award
SHILLONG, Feb 22: The North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, a government body under Ministry of Culture dedicated to promote folk and tribal arts culture of different regions, has invited application for the Young Talent Artistes Award 2020-2021 from candidates in the categories of Folk and Tribal music/song and dance, Theatre, Dance Drama, Mime, Painting, Wood, Cane & Bamboo Crafts, Traditional Handloom & Handicrafts, Pottery, etc. Young artistes/artisans in the age group of 18 to 30 years (as on March 15, 2022) are eligible to apply for the award, a statement issued here informed. The award consists of Rs 10,000, citation and memento, it added. “Candidates should be an Indian citizen and indigenous to the eight Northeastern states Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. Candidates who have received any such awards (State/National) earlier in the same field are not eligible for the scheme,” it stated The application form may be collected from the office of the Directorate of Art & Culture/Cultural Affairs of the respective states or Shilpgram, Panjabari, Guwahati, and Headquarter Office, Dimapur.
