AITC inducts 326 members in WKH

NONGSTOIN/SHILLONG, Feb 23: In a development that speaks volumes about the shift of focus of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) from Garo Hills region to the Khasi-Jaintia Hills, the AITC, on Wednesday, inducted 326 people in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills even as he party announced the constitution of the Nongstoin Block Trinamool Congress in a programme at Bishop Hall, New Nongstoin.
The newly appointed vice-presidents of AITC state committee, Himalaya Shangpliang and James Lyngdoh discussed the roadmap ahead and the vision of the party in the state.
Speaking at the induction ceremony, Shangpliang said, “There is a lot of good response at the grassroots which is very important for us. As AITC is a party for the grassroots, we appeal to strengthen the grassroots.”
During the programme, Macmillan Kharbani was elected as block president, Maniksing Kharbani and Orlan Myrthong as vice presidents, Elishon Kharbani, Fellingstar John Lyngkhoi and Lemuel Godfrey Lynshing as general secretaries besides 70 executive members.
In addition, Shangpliang has exuded confidence in the newly appointed block president of Nongstoin, Macmillan Kharbani.
After being elected as the AITC block president, Kharbani said, “This is the only party that is fighting against the BJP and the communal forces. I aim to promote and strengthen secular parties.”
Speaking at the event, James Lyngdoh lambasted the Congress, especially the five MLAs who have supported the MDA government stating that the Congress is clearly known today as ‘Team B’ of the BJP and that its leaders have forgotten the Congress ideology.
