Exhibition-cum-awareness prog
Shillong, Feb 24: In commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a two-day exhibition cum awareness programme celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence and Covid Appropriate Behaviour was inaugurated on Thursday by Acting VC of NEHU, Shillong and chief guest, Prof TB Subha. The inauguration ceremony took place in the Multiuse Convention Hall, NEHU and was attended by Registrar, NEHU, Dr Jay Narayan, Director, Regional Outreach Bureau, Shillong, Dr Engam Pam and Dean of Students’ Welfare, NEHU, Dr RL Nongkhlaw.
Tech demonstration for farmers
SHILLONG, Feb 24: The Research Extension Centre -Shillong and the department of Sericulture & Weaving, East Khasi Hills district organised a technology demonstration for farmers at Mynriang village on Thursday. Scientist-D, REC Shillong, Dr N Balachandran, District Sericulture Officer, EKH, K Eugene and a total of 21 farmers from the village were among those who had attended the programme. During the demonstration, advantages of the new disinfectant “Nirmool” and the bed disinfectant “Seri-Win” developed by CSRTI-Berhampore were popularised among the participant farmers. The method of preparation, application and dosage of both the products were also relayed to the participant beneficiaries as part of it.
Base laying ceremony
SHILLONG, Feb 24: The Management of St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, will commemorate the inaugural function for laying the Foundation Stone of the Rev. Fr. Joseph Bacchiarello Annexe on Monday at 5:30 pm at the Site of the Annexe (Old Parking Lot), St. Anthony’s College, Shillong. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will grace the ceremony as chief guest and Rev. Fr. Paul Olphindro Lyngkot, SDB, Provincial of the Shillong Province will bless the foundation stone and the site as part of the ceremony. Rev. Fr. Joseph Bacchiarello was the former Principal and Founder of St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, during the year 1934-1935 after whom the new Annexe is named.
PBR App, Forest Fire App launched
SHILLONG, Feb 24: Two crucial apps — the PBR App and Forest Fire App for the State of Meghalaya — were launched by Forest and Environment Minister, James PK Sangma, complementing Statehood of Meghalaya celebrations and infusing technological innovations in collaboration with National Informatics Centre (NIC) and also the North East Space Application Centre (NESAC), Shillong. The Peoples Biodiversity Register (PBR) App developed by NIC was launched for the purpose of upgradation and enriching the data base of inventory of biological resources of the state where the Mobile App version can be used not only by domain related officials but also the general public. The Forest Fire App, developed by NESAC Shillong for use by the Meghalaya Forest Department, is intended to provide a one point source of information on issues related to fire management in sync with Forest Survey of India data.
