NONGPOH, Feb 25: The National People’s Party (NPP) leaders from Nongpoh have expressed disbelief over their colleagues tendering their resignations out of the blue.
On Thursday, the NPP suffered a major blow when its top leaders from Nongpoh tendered their resignation, alleging that the party’s state leadership has sidelined them in terms of allotment of party ticket in Nongpoh.
However, on Friday, NPP leaders from Nongpoh maintained that the party high command had asked them to come to Shillong several times and discuss the matter.
But CB Syiem and others were not willing to do that, which is why the party’s high command was compelled to allot the party ticket to Umsning MDC, Macdalyne Sawkmie Mawlong, to contest the upcoming Assembly elections in 2023, the leaders said.
They also denied reports of party being dissolved in Ri-Bhoi following the departure of select leaders.
The leaders also maintained that most of the NPP workers and office-bearers have not left the party and the same is growing stronger each day.
We still have faith in the leadership of Conrad K Sangma as the Chief Minister and Prestone Tynsong as the Deputy Chief Minister, and we will continue to work hard to strengthen the party each day. We have full confidence that the party will win all the five constituencies of Ri-Bhoi in the assembly elections, they said.
