Police foil drug smuggling bid in SGH

TURA, March 1: Police in South Garo Hills foiled a drug smuggling bid on Monday after specific inputs were received that the illegal substance was being delivered to an unknown person in Baghmara, to be smuggled to Bangladesh.
According to police, after receiving information that the drugs were being delivered to Malikona in Baghmara area, one Merajul Hoque was detained by the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) staff at Malikona.
Upon preliminary interrogation, the accused led the police team to the residence of one, Babu Das, from where a red and black coloured backpack (Bluebird), containing 98 bottles of banned Phensedyl cough syrup each containing 100 ml syrup were recovered.
Further interrogation of a woman, Usha Das, at the site, led to the recovery of another six small blue plastic bags with suspected WY/Yaba/Methaphetamine tablets.
A total of 1,125 tablets weighing 109 grams were recovered during the raid.
