SHILLONG, March 10: As time seems ripe to get the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) in for dialogue, especially since their last offer for peace talks, there has been another development that is likely to set the ball rolling further.
In this latest development, retired IAS officer and former East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Peter S Dkhar, has been appointed as the interlocutor for the peace talks with the proscribed group.
Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui confirmed that the central government has given the go-ahead to the state government to initiate the process of peace talks.
Peter S Dkhar will be assisted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Adviser, North East, and retired IPS officer, AK Mishra.
Nonetheless, Dkhar, when contacted, said that he has not yet received the appointment letter from the state government.
“It’s too early to say anything,” he said.
