SHILLONG, March 11: The Opposition on Friday asked the state government to expeditiously complete the two medical college and the Shillong Engineering College projects for the benefit of the student community.
Participating in the general discussion, AITC MLA Zenith M Sangma said Meghalaya is yet to have a medical college despite the two projects being sanctioned in 2012.
“I don’t know what the progress is. The academic session should have started by now. If it is completed, we will have at least 100 seats each in the two medical colleges for MBBS courses. The same applies to the engineering college,” the AITC MLA said.
He recalled that the previous government had also sanctioned the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, which was supposed to be the first of its kind in the Northeast, in 2012.
“This college is also yet to be completed. I urge upon the state government to expedite the construction work for the benefit of our students. These institutions are necessary since we have now realised that it is very difficult to send our children outside due to COVID-19,” Sangma said.
