SHILLONG, March 13:  As the crucial Assembly elections inches closer with every passing day, the opposition All India Trinamool Congress seems to be in no mood to take any of its political adversaries lightly even as they vow to keep their strategy close to their chest
“We will take BJP, NPP and all other political parties seriously because it is us and them so at the moment there is only one political party in the opposition and all the rest are in the government,” said Leader of the Opposition Dr Mukul Sangma.
“We know what to do and we know what they will do,” Sangma said, adding that the ruling dispensation will try to seek a re-mandate, which will make it very important for the AITC to talk about change.
“People who are with the government of the day will align with them but electorates who are fed up of this government and want better governance and are concerned about the future of the state keeping in mind aspirations and hopes of young friends they will opt for a change,” he said.
He further added that what percentage of such persons will gravitate towards them will depend on how the AITC navigates its political strategy.
Talking about the stand of different political parties, Mukul said, “You cannot say that you need to be cautious about this party and be less concerned about others because you don’t have just two parties, there are multiple political parties”.
He observed that as per the trend in Meghalaya, many of the sitting MLAs do have challenges associated with anti-incumbency factor.
Asked about the money power being a factor, Mukul Sangma said he has seen how it works and how it does not.
“I have seen in the recent district council elections in Garo Hills when the party in power was using all the forces and power under their command but we had our own strategy. Money will not work everywhere it will work to some extent but money is always not enough to make somebody win the elections,” he said.
On the tag of being a party belonging to a particular race, the Opposition leader said that such narratives are not going to work.
