WGH health workers feted on National Vaccination Day
Tura, March 16: As part of the pan-India celebrations of National Vaccination Day under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the West Garo Hills district administration on Wednesday felicitated healthcare workers from the district. The programme, which was held at Circuit House, Tura, was attended by Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh as the chief guest. Speaking during the programme, Singh congratulated the healthcare workers for their services. District Immunisation Officer, Dr Ivonne M Sangma, on the other hand, informed that the first round of polio immunisation in January this year received cent per cent success. Sangma also informed that vaccination against COVID-19 for the age group of 12 to 14 years will begin from next week at session sites and health centres. The documents required for the same include identity card/school identity card/Aadhaar card or rations card, Sangma added.
Call for action against ‘arsonists’
MAWKYRWAT, March 16: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Phlangkynshi Unit, has sought against the miscreants who had allegedly set ablaze the Wah Nohriang bridge in South West Khasi Hills. The Union on Wednesday flagged concern over the incident and asked the police to expedite the probe and arrest the alleged arsonists without delay. The students’ union also alleged that this was the second time such an attempt has been made by miscreants to burn down the bridge. It may be mentioned that the Wah Nohriang bridge, which connects six villages in Phlangkynshi area, about 20 km from Mawkyrwat, on Sunday suffered minor damage after it was set ablaze by unknown miscreants. A complaint was also registered at Mawkyrwat Police Station by village leaders from Domtynrong in this regard.
