SHILLONG, March 18: No shops at the MUDA shopping complex in Khyndai Lad are sub-letting to other parties but some stalls are being run by managers hired by the stall owners, the Meghalaya government has claimed.
Sources said the allotment of stalls at the shopping complex is done through tendering or advertisement except for old municipal stalls on the ground floor. They also said the background verification is not done to ascertain the financial status of the owners.
Stating this was a scheme to tackle unemployment, the sources said there is no reservation percentage. The terms and conditions include intimation to the office at the time of allotment about the business to be run a stall barring the sale of liquor, firecrackers or any socially unacceptable items.
