TURA, March 19: Accusing the present NPP-led MDA government of belying their trust and belief, the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has begun the boycott of their duties from March 17 until their pending dues of five months are cleared.
According to a statement issued here on Saturday, teachers under AGHSSASTA have decided to boycott all of their duties, be it regular classes, medical duties, election, district, block or CRC level duties going forward. The boycott of duties began on the same day that school sessions were reopened in the state.
The decision to do so came through a meeting held between the CEC members of AGHSSASTA after their memos seeking the release of their salaries went unheeded by the state government.
“Till date there has been no positive response from the Government side to clear all the five months’ salary. We have submitted frequent memorandums and petitions to the education and chief Minister of Meghalaya over the issue but failed to get responses. We can’t understand why we are still not being paid even at the end of the financial year,” said publicity secretary, Bunbunbirth Marak.
The teachers felt aggrieved that despite the matter being raised by an MLA in the jus-concluded Assembly session, there has been no action taken to clear their pending dues.
“We cannot believe and trust the ruling MDA government led by Conrad K Sangma. Due to their adamant attitude and turning a deaf ear to the pathetic situation of us teachers, we have decided to continue boycotting our duties till our dues are cleared,” he said.
