SHILLONG, March 21: Members of the Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) may intensify their stir against the delay by the state government in fulfilling their demand for upgrading all ad hoc schools to deficit system or deficit pattern with effect from 2019.
In its general meeting on Monday, the FASTOM also decided to hold a peaceful rally till the secretariat on Tuesday.
FASTOM executive member Mayborn Lyngdoh said they will approach the district administration for permission to carry out the rally.
The members of the federation were earlier prevented from marching towards the secretariat as they did not have permission.
The FASTOM set a March-end deadline for the government to act on its demands.
Currently, the monthly salary of a lower primary school teacher is Rs 12,000. The pay of an upper primary, a secondary and a higher secondary school teacher is Rs 16,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 24,000 respectively.
There is no additional allowance for teachers in each of these categories.
The teachers said their movement is now beyond negotiation and assured that it will not affect the students as they are preparing for their board exams.
Representatives of the FASTOM had met Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma with their demands in August 2019. He assured to discuss the matter but it has not materialised to date.
