SHILLONG, March 22: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Tuesday sought to wash its hands off the allegations of illegal coal mining and transportation in the state, saying that it was not involved in any illegality and at the same time asserting that it had always told its partners in the NPP-led MDA Government to act against the same. It also made it clear that the allegations will not impact the party’s election prospects since they were not involved in any illegality.
“Whenever we have had an opportunity to sit with our MDA partners we had objected to illegal mining and transportation. We had always stressed on the need to abide by the NGT guidelines,” HSPDP chief KP Pangniang said on Tuesday.
“We were never involved in any illegal activity. Instead, we reiterate our stand that the MMDR Act of 1957 should not apply in Meghalaya,” he stressed.
