Push for 40 pc quota for marginalised tribals

SHILLONG, March 22: The state BJP has demanded a review of the State Reservation Policy and has sought 40 per cent reservation for the marginalised tribals of Meghalaya.
Speaking to media persons, senior BJP leader AL Hek stressed on the need to revamp and review the State Reservation Policy by laying special emphasis to the marginalised tribals of state and bringing them at par with other sections of the society.
The saffron party has also resolved to aggressively take up with the MDA Government the demand for 40 per cent reservation for the marginalised tribals of the state.
Meanwhile, state BJP president Ernest Mawrie has informed that Hek has been appointed as the chairman of a committee that will monitor the implementation of central schemes in Meghalaya.
In this regard, Hek has been empowered to constitute similar committees in Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills to keep a tab on the implementation of the central schemes in the state as instructed by the party leadership.
