SHILLONG, March 25: The state government is yet to take a call on appointment of the next Director-General of Police despite the UPSC clearing the names of three contenders for the top police post in Meghalaya.
Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma said on Friday that the state government needs more time to follow the due process before appointing the DGP. The decision will be based on the prescribed rules and norms, he said.
The UPSC had shortlisted Mukesh Agarwal, KV Singh Deo (both 1989 batch) and Lajja Ram Bishnoi (1991 batch) for appointment as the DGP of Meghalaya while rejecting two other names – SN Singh (1991 batch) and Idashisha Nongrang (1992 batch).
Nongrang is currently serving as Special DGP.
