WILLIAMNAGAR, March 25: Pressure groups in East Garo Hills have decided to picket government offices under Rongjeng C&RD Block, citing failure of a government committee to initiate inquiry into the alleged shoddy construction work of Rongjeng Model College.
On February 3, a technical committee was constituted by the state government to inquire into allegations of substandard work of the college.
However, no initiation of inquiry has what rendered the pressure groups vexed, with them deciding to picket all government offices, barring PHE, PHC and educational institutes, on March 29 and 30. “The Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya as well as the Director of Higher and Technical Education, through a notification, formed a technical committee to initiate an inquiry. However despite a month passing by, the technical team is yet to reach the college for fact finding. We condemn the lackadaisical attitude of the government and those at the helm of affairs,” said the NGOs in a statement.
