TURA, March 25: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh has ordered an inquiry by the district Education department into reports of 15 students from Rengsinpara Secondary School not being able to sit for the ongoing SSLC examinations for want of admit cards.
The order for inquiry comes after the matter was flagged by several NGOs of Pedaldoba region, including the Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC). The NGOs blamed the school authorities including the headmaster, Suresh Newar and another teacher, Bijoy Chettri for negligence.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the GSMC demanded a magisterial inquiry into the matter and punishment for the teachers over their lapse that cased 15 students to lose a year of their education.
“They have not been able to attempt the SSLC exams. Twelve years of their hard work has been lost due to the neglect of the two teachers. Their future is now in danger and this is a clear violation of the RTE Act,” GSMC said, while requesting the Education department and MBoSE to allow the students to sit for the exams as what had happened was not their fault.
“We also demand that action should be taken against the teachers responsible for this goof-up that has put the future of the 15 affected students in danger,” it said.
Meanwhile the DC confirmed that an inquiry led by the SDO of Raksamgre and the SDSEO of West Garo Hills is currently being taken up. He also confirmed that a fact finding team from MBoSE visited the school in question to know about what happened.
“Initial findings point to the 15 students not registering themselves when they were in Class IX due to which MBoSE has not issued their admit cards. I am awaiting a full report so that action can be taken accordingly,” the DC said.
