Para-legal volunteers undergo training

SHILLONG, March 26: Para-legal volunteers from East Khasi Hills on Saturday underwent training on various rights and laws during a one-day programme organised by District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills, in collaboration with Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority.
According to a statement, the training was also attended by students of Shillong Law College and other legal experts.
“The topics for the day-long training include Legal Services Authority Act, 1987, Role and Responsibilities of Para Legal Volunteers and Introduction to NALSA Schemes, Basics of Criminal Law and Early Access to Justice and Pre Arrest, Arrest and Remand Stage, Child Rights and NALSA Effective Implementation of Poverty Alleviation Schemes, 2015, Government Schemes Welfare Schemes and Programmes for economically and socially backward sections of the society,” the statement said.
An interactive session was also held on the role of para-legal volunteers as intermediaries by bridging the gap between governmental institutions and common people.
