SHILLONG, March 30: Meghalaya has been awarded performance incentive grant of Rs 400 crore under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) for the 2021-22 financial year.
Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat recently approved Rs 1,982 crore as performance incentive grant to six states including Meghalaya. The other states are Himachal Pradesh (Rs 750 crore), Arunachal Pradesh (Rs 542 crore), Manipur (Rs 120 crore), Tripura (Rs 100 crore) and Sikkim (Rs 70 crore).
Since the announcement of JJM on August 15, 2019, more than six crore households have been provided with tap water connections, thus increasing the tap water supply from 3.23 crore (17%) to more than 9.34 crore (48.3%) rural households in the country. The budget for JJM for 2022-23 has been enhanced to Rs 60,000 crore, said a statement released by the Ministry.
