SHILLONG, March 30: Angelina Riazida Lyngdoh Mawphlang, mother of George B Lyngdoh, All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) MLA from Umroi, and the widow of former chief minister, (late) EK Mawlong, passed away on Wednesday.
Angelina, also the Publisher of U Nongsain Hima, was a resident of Lumsohphoh, Lower Mawprem.
Her funeral will be held at the Mawprem Catholic Church cemetery at 1 pm on Friday.
The Meghalaya Editors’ and Publishers’ Association (MEPA), on the other hand, expressed its deep shock and sorrow over the sudden demise of Lyngdoh, fondly known as Kong Ria.
It said Lyngdoh, as the publisher of U Nongsain Hima, has richly contributed to the spread of journalism in Meghalaya and is one of the oldest members of MEPA. Her demise is a great loss to the journalist fraternity, especially MEPA, it added.
“MEPA conveys its deepest condolences to the bereaved family especially her sons – Andrew W. Lyngdoh who is the Editor of U Nongsain Hima, George B Lyngdoh, Umroi MLA and former general secretary of MEPA and all the near and dear ones,” the association said.
