SHILLONG, April 1: Governor Satya Pal Malik on Friday assured a group of mid-day meal workers from Jaintia Hills that he would push Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to hike their salary from Rs 1,000 per month to Rs 5,000.
The Governor made this assurance to a delegation of All Jaintia Mid-day Meal Workers’ Union who called on him at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum.
The AJMWU said that they had submitted a memorandum to the CM on June 3, 2019 and had even sent reminders in September, 2019 and again in December, 2019 but to no avail.
The AJMWU reminded the Governor that they were being paid their salaries every three months. They requested Malik to ensure that they were paid twelve months’ salary instead of ten months. They demanded health, social and pension schemes and grant of grant sick, maternity and paternity leaves.
