SHILLONG, April 1: Days after the Meghalaya High Court directed the General-Officer Commanding of the 101 Area and the Director-General Assam Rifles to verify their position and take immediate remedial action if drugs are sometimes transported in army trucks, which are generally immune to checking, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday said the state government will examine the matter.
The CM refused to comment further, saying that he was yet to peruse the report.
He, however, said that the government will take all necessary steps to ensure that the menace of substance abuse is brought under control.
In its order, the High Court has suggested for teams of flying army checkers to be deployed along the route to make surprise checks on Army vehicles which are otherwise not subjected to checks.
