Madrid coach Ancelotti likely to miss Chelsea game
MADRID, April 5: Real Madrid will likely be without coach Carlo Ancelotti for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Chelsea because of COVID-19. Ancelotti tested positive for the coronavirus last week and did not travel to London with the rest of the squad on Tuesday. There was a possibility he could still make it for Wednesday’s match if he tests negative in time to travel. Ancelotti had already missed the team’s 2-1 win over Celta Vigo in the Spanish league on Saturday, when assistant coach Davide Ancelotti, his son, was among those in charge. (AP)

Sen, Bansod progress to second round of Korea Open
SUNCHEON, April 5: World championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen and fast-rising Malvika Bansod progressed to the second round of the men’s and women’s singles competitions respectively after registering gruelling three-game wins at the Korea Open Super 500 badminton tournament here on Tuesday. While Sen staved off a spirited challenge from local hope Choi Ji Hoon 14-21 21-16 21-18 in just over an hour in his opening round match, Bansod rallied her way to notch up a stunning 20-22 22-20 21-10 win over world no 24 Han Yue of China. Batra, Kamath break into top 5 in women’s doubles
NEW DELHI, April 5: The Indian women’s doubles pair of Manika Batra and Archana Girish Kamath jumped two places to break into the top-5 in the latest rankings, released by the ITTF. The duo now occupies the fourth spot with 1501 points. Batra and Kamath had claimed the bronze medal at the WTT Star Contender Doha 2022 after losing the semifinals to the Chinese Taipei’s pair of Li Yu-Jhun and Cheng I-Ching, last week. The Chinese pair of Wang Manyu and Sun Yingsha sit atop the chart with 4289 points. (PTI)

Alcaraz moves 2nd in ATP race
Miami, April 5: Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz’s title triumph at the Miami Open – an ATP 1000 event – has seen the 18-year old move up five spots to second in the ATP Race To Turin. After last year’s Miami Open, Alcaraz was 110th in the Race. But the Miami champion already has 1,950 points, thanks to his title on Monday (IST) along with an ATP 500 trophy at the Rio Open and a semifinal run at the BNP Paribas Open. (IANS)
