NEIGRIHMS wins accolades

SHILLONG, April 11: NEIGRIHMS, a premier institute in Meghalaya, has added more feathers in its cap thanks to the efforts of its faculty, one of whom, Dr Tanie Natung, Professor and Head of Department of Ophthalmology, was conferred with the prestigious “Sushruta Samman” award.
The award was presented to him during the 5th National Assembly of Forum of Ophthalmology Professors of India (FOPI) & Pan India HOD Ophthalmology Group meeting held at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh from April 2 to 3.
He was honoured for his outstanding role as a professor & HOD, Ophthalmology in teaching and training the undergraduate (MBBS) & Postgraduate (MD/MS) students and excellence in eye surgeries. Sushruta Samman is the highest national award accorded by FOPI in Ophthalmology for professors with outstanding contributions to teaching and training and excelling in eye surgeries. Further, Prof Natung is also the recipient of the prestigious ‘International Council of Ophthalmology’ fellowship award and ‘Delhi Ophthalmological Society’ travel grant award.
He also happens to be an expert in Phaco-refractive surgeries and Strabismus & Pediatric Ophthalmology.
In another moment of pride, NEIGRIHMS bagged the top spot in the country for outstanding performance in observance of World Oral Health Day celebrated on March 20, 2022, which saw the participation of more than 150 dental colleges and institutes from all over India.
The award was announced at a programme in Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi, on April 8, and the winners were handed over certificates by Dr Sunil Kumar, DGHS, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The World Oral Health Day was celebrated by the Department of Dentistry, NEIGRIHMS, under the leadership of Prof S Vijay Singh, Professor and HoD.
The institute conducted radio talk show, awareness run campaign, poster competition and various community-based programmes including oral screening in schools, orphanage and old-age homes and distributed toothbrush and toothpaste along with pamphlets on importance of oral and dental health during the observance of World Oral Health Day.
On the other hand, for its efforts to provide best affordable treatment to patients, NEIGRIHMS also received ‘Ayushman Utkristata Puraskar 2021’ for best performing Hospital under the small state category.
The award certificate was handed over to NEIGRIHMS on April 8.
The institute has successfully implemented Ayushman Bharat – PMJAY in convergence with MHIS (Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme) for the benefit of underprivileged patients.
In addition to these schemes, NEIGRIHMS is also implementing CMAAY (Chief Minister Arunachal Aarogya Yojna) and RAN (Rastriya Aarogya Nidhi) schemes for cashless treatment to needy patients.
