SHILLONG, April 14: Congress MDC from Mawhati, Charles Marngar expressed disappointed over Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui’s statement that the case pertaining to the arrest of three locals from Sabuda in Ri-Bhoi district by Assam Police cannot be transferred to the state.
“This only reflects the inefficiency of the present government. My question to the Home Minister is why the case cannot be transferred?” Marngar told reporters in the presence of the Rangbah Shnong of Sabuda, Shanroy Mukhim and the relatives of the three arrested persons.
The trio – Barson Lawai, Disparsing Mukhim and Standling Khyriem – was arrested on April 10 on allegation of torching a wooden bridge. (Contd on P-4)

(Contd from P-1) “As per my understanding, the case should have been transferred to Meghalaya the same night when they were arrested since Assam police had informed Meghalaya police about the arrests. I don’t know why the state government is not pursuing transfer of this case,” Marngar said.
He questioned how the MDA government can resolve the border dispute when they cannot even transfer a simple case of arrest to the state from Assam.
The Congress MDC also claimed that there was no evidence to prove that the trio had torched the wooden bridge as alleged. “We have submitted a petition to the district administration to transfer the case from West Karbi Anglong to Meghalaya,” he said, while adding that they would approach the Gauhati High Court to seek the release of the arrested persons.
