SHILLONG, April 16: The state BJP on Saturday warned action lest the state government fails to make public the audit report of Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) by May.
It may be mentioned that the state government had ordered an audit in the two ADCs following pressure from the state BJP for a CBI probe into the alleged misutilisation of central funds under the Special Assistant Grant (SAG). However, there has been a delay in making the report public. Albeit sources have informed that the report has been submitted, the Minister in-charge of District Council Affairs, Lahkmen Rymbui, has maintained that he is yet to receive the report.
Stating that the BJP is discontented with the state government’s way of handling the issue of corruption in the ADCs, state BJP chief Ernest Mawrie said, “They are taking it lightly again and again. We have pressurised the government to make the report public and till today they have not submitted.”
“We will write a strong letter to CM and a copy to DCA Minister. They have to call for the report immediately,” he added.
Recalling that during the MDA coordination committee meeting, the chief minister had promised to make the report public within three months, Mawrie said nothing has been done till date.
“We request the government and give ultimatum by May that they should place the report or else we will take action,” he added.
