SHILLONG, April 16: Leader of the Opposition Mukul Sangma’s criticism of the MDA coalition on the boundary deal seems to have not gone down well with many in the state, one of whom is Rajya Sabha member and NPP state president, WR Kharlukhi, who in response to Sangma’s statement, has said that the former Chief Minister did not have the capability to resolve the contentious issue and is picking holes in initiative of the incumbent government.
Mukul Sangma recently conveyed strong criticism of the state government after the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the chief ministers of Assam and Meghalaya for a resolution to the dispute in six areas.
The statement came from Kharlukhi as Mukul Sangma has been critical of the State Government after both Meghalaya and Assam Government signed an agreement for a resolution in six disputed areas following which there is massive protest against the decision of the Government.
“Dr Mukul Sangma was in power for long but he did not have the capability to resolve the dispute and when others are doing it, he is criticising it,” the NPP state president said.
Asking him to do away with his dog-in-the-manger approach, Kharlukhi said that doing so will not help the people of the state.
“Tell us. If he has guts and if he is given the chance, will he resolve the issue within a stipulated time?” he said while recalling that in 2010, four precious lives were lost due to the boundary dispute between the two states.
“Who was the Chief Minister that time and what have you done to those people who killed our people?” Kharlukhi said, while suggesting those opposing the border MoU to come up with solutions.
