Shillong, April 18: Meghalaya came out on top 3-2 over Rajasthan in their opening Group A match of the senior men’s National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy at the Kottappadi Football Stadium in Kerala, on Monday.
Rajasthan broke the deadlock in the 2nd minute through Youraj Singh before Man-of-the-Match Figo Syndai’s first half brace (25’ & 39’) turned the game around for Meghalaya.
However, Rajasthan equalized in the 56th through Imran Khan but Meghalaya skipper Hardy Cliff Nongbri converted a penalty in the 64th minute to restore his team’s lead.
That proved to be the last goal of the game and Rajasthan were condemned to their second consecutive loss in the group of death, which also includes three former champions – West Bengal, Kerala and Punjab.
