JOWAI, April 19: Peeved at no end to garbage-induced miseries, the Tympang Dorbar Shnong in Jowai has issued a three-day deadline to the state government to clear the rubbish from Iawmusiang, Jowai.
In a letter to the West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, LSN Garod Dyke, the Dorbar Shnong said that it will be compelled to act lest the government fails to remove from the area the ever-increasing garbage that has been causing misery to not only the passers-by but also the public in general.
Asking the DC to initiate immediate measures and act against the waste management crisis, the Dorbar Shnong argued that the failure of the concerned department in collecting waste from markets within the vicinity of lawmusiang since February 4 has precipitated haphazard dumping of garbage in public areas.
Since then, students, employees and public at large, who have to visit Jowai, have to pass through the road at lawmusiang, and are exposed to the foul smell emanating from the garbage dump on the roadside, the Dorbar Shnong said.
“This includes the officers and staff of DC Office and of the Court of the District & Sessions Judge, which are the two prime institutions in the district,” the Dorbar Shnong said in the letter.
It may be mentioned that the everyday piling up of garbage in lawmusiang recently necessitated a meeting of the members of the Dorbar Shnong during which deliberations over measures against the waste management crisis was held.
